White Water Rafting, River Tay

Fast, wet, unpredictable, exhilarating – and that’s just the rivers!

Live It!

White-water rafting involves a large, specially-constructed inflatable craft to carry up to eight adrenalin seekers down rivers of varying difficulty, from the tame to the extreme. You work as a team with the others in the boat to manoeuvre your way along the river’s natural course, with all the twists, bumps and rapids that involves. Until recently Grade 5 drops and rapids were off limits to all but the most experienced kayaker. Now a new breed of tough, inflatable rafts, and an increase in the number of highly-trained guides, has made even these invigorating torrents accessible to all. Rafting centres provide all the equipment, apart from swimming gear, a towel and sense of humour. Those you need to bring yourself!

White water rafting is certainly one activity in Scotland that is never the same twice, as the experience differs with the rise and fall of the water levels. Just one-and-a-half hours outside Glasgow and Edinburgh, the River Tay is one of the top places in Scotland to try white water rafting for yourself. There are a number of operators on the River Tay; you’ll find their details in the links section to the left.
