Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness

The ruins of Urquhart Castle still maintain an impressive stronghold on the north shore of Loch Ness.

Live It!

Now in the care of Historic Scotland, Urquhart Castle is open all year round and has its own visitor centre with exhibition, films, a shop and restaurant. South of Inverness, it’s a perfect stop-off point to view Loch Ness from the dramatic ruins of the castle.

The loch itself is over 20 miles long, one mile wide and 700 feet at its deepest. It’s an area rich in wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled as you walk or hike your way around the loch. Or book a boat trip on the loch itself; you never know what you’ll end up seeing! Find out even more about Inverness and Loch Ness via the links to the left.
