Marischal College

Intricate turrets carved from the hardest of stones – a stunning feat of Aberdeen architecture.

Live It!

Marischal College is the second largest granite structure in the world. The college was founded in 1593 by George Keith, Fourth Earl Marischal of Scotland, hence the name. Some parts of the college are still in use today by the University of Aberdeen.

Aberdeen, Scotland’s third largest city after Glasgow and Edinburgh, has a strong tradition of fishing, oil and education. You can stroll through the Old Town and university campus to get a feel for the history of the place. Or take in the sea air along the Beach Boulevard. Recent years have seen redevelopment along the sea front to add new leisure and entertainment facilities.

Aberdeen is also right in the middle of castle country, with outstanding examples to visit at Crathes and Craigievar as part of a special Castle Trail. Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail is also easily accessible from an Aberdeen base. Check out this northerly city and all there is to see via the links on the left.
