Edinburgh's Christmas

You can’t help but give in to the festive mood that glows throughout Edinburgh’s Christmas.

Live It!

Fireworks, traditional markets, miles of festive lights, open-air skating, candlelit carols: Edinburgh really looks forward to Christmas in style! The countdown to Christmas starts towards the end of November on Light Night with the switch-on of the city’s Christmas lights. The main focus is the Mound’s Christmas tree, a gift from Norway.

Meanwhile in Princes Street Gardens, it’s all the fun of the fair. Skaters can also take to the open-air rink with the floodlit Edinburgh Castle and Old Town as their scenic backdrop. The Big Wheel next to the Scott Monument on Princes Street offers a lofty, if chilly, view of the city’s Christmas scene. Thankfully the traditional festive market has mulled wine and hot seasonal food and drinks to warm you back up again.

Edinburgh’s stores put on a good festive show as well. Shop windows attract as much attention as the shops themselves. Don’t miss the floor-to-ceiling Christmas tree in the main hall at Jenners. How do they get it in there?
