Climbing, Cairngorms

The thrill of the climb, the view from the top: climbing in Scotland is rewarding on every level.

Live It!

Forged by glaciers over 10,000 years ago, The Cairngorms National Park covers one of the most spectacular landscapes in the UK. You get a real sense of the culture and history of the area as you tour historic forts and castles, old bridges and military roads, or whisky distilleries and craft workshops.

The Cairngorms National Park is also a mecca for walkers and climbers. The extensive path networks in the glens and forests surrounding the high Cairngorms make this area perfect for relaxing walks. Marked trails lead through woods and moors, by rivers and lochs, with the constant backdrop of the surrounding mountains. Many routes run through tracts of ancient Caledonian Pine forest, which contain magnificent, gnarled trees and support an abundance of wildlife. Several locations here have starred as a backdrop to the BBC TV series 'Monarch of the Glen'.
