Shorter days don’t mean Scotland is short of ways to enjoy winter. From seasonal sports to energetic ceilidhs, you’re sure to get a warm feeling about Scotland.

Live It!

It’s easy to just hibernate at home in winter. But look at what you’re missing! Skiing and snowboarding come into their own in winter at dedicated centres around the country. The advent of Christmas sees city and town centres transformed with festive markets, funfairs and period characters. Glittering Christmas lights really help put you in the seasonal spirit. For Scots, New Year is an even bigger deal. We’ve even got our own name for it: Hogmanay. Become an honorary Scot for the night and join in the party! From the mammoth multi-day celebrations in Edinburgh to more humble, but no less enjoyable, parties around Scotland, it’s the place to ring in the New Year.

Winter also brings a hearty selection of touring shows and pantomimes to Scotland’s major cities and larger towns. Pubs, bars and restaurants are warm havens of welcome and you can round off your evening dancing to the hottest DJs around.
